Comedyhuis: Sunny Boy Adi Parmar
When Adi Parmar (gay) moved to the Netherlands (gezellig), fatherhood was the last thing on his mind. He believed expectations of marriage and family were left behind in India, making space for queer freedom, self-discovery, and ambition.
But a relationship unexpectedly introduces him to a parental role he never planned for, forcing Adi to confront his complicated relationship with his own father and the behavioral patterns he had long ignored. Gasp.
Moving between cultures, generations, and conflicting expectations, often all at once, Sunny Boy is Adi’s attempt to make sense of identity and belonging, using the one tool he trusts most: stand-up comedy.
About Adi Parmar
Adi Parmar is an Amsterdam-based comedian who began his comedy journey with improv at Boom Chicago, where he completed all levels of training and performed in multiple student showcases. He later transitioned to stand-up comedy, which has been his main focus for the past two years.
In June 2024, Adi won the Newbie Comedian of the Year competition for English-speaking comedians in the Netherlands. He is now a regular on the Amsterdam comedy circuit, performing at venues across the city.
Adi has already performed his solo show in Amsterdam and Utrecht, and has taken the show internationally to Berlin, as well as the Adelaide Fringe and the Glasgow International Comedy Festival in 2026. This summer, Adi will be performing his show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
