‘Living Together Apart’ is een artistiek onderzoeksproject dat licht werpt op (jong)volwassenen die zich identificeren met ‘bi-cultuur’.

Beeldend kunstenaar en experience designer Ying Yi Wu zal har vooronderzoek van ‘Living Together Apart’ voortzetten door eerst te reflecteren op haar eigen culturele identiteiten. Veel mensen denken dat culturele identiteiten worden gegeven en meestal verband houden met juridische documenten. Maar zo eenvoudig is het niet. Ying Yi voelt de urgentie om het maatschappelijke onderwerp rond ‘migratie’ en ‘culturele identiteiten’ te onderzoeken. Culturele identiteiten zijn verbonden met veel gebeurtenissen.

Ying Yi kwam vanuit China naar Nederland om kunst te studeren, en na een paar jaar te hebben geleefd en geïntegreerd in de lokale cultuur en taal, heeft ze een deel van de Nederlandse cultuur overgenomen in haar identiteit. Om een simpel voorbeeld te geven: ze is veel directer geworden dan voorheen.

Om de productiekosten van ‘Living Together Apart’ te dekken, initieert ze deze offline crowdfunding door je in ruil voor een kleine donatie uit te nodigen voor één-op-één traditionele Chinese theeceremonies. Elke theeceremonie duurt ongeveer 30 minuten. Je krijgt speciale bloementhee geserveerd, aangezien bloemen essentiële inspiratiebronnen zijn in haar kunstwerken. Tijdens de theeceremonie kun je ook vragen stellen over haar vooronderzoek.

Ying Yi Wu is beeldend kunstenaar, experience designer en verhalenverteller. Met een sociaal en cultureel georiënteerde mindset vertelt ze verhalen door middel van beeldende kunst en performance art. Ying Yi verzamelt en creëert zintuiglijke talen en culturen door te spelen met de botanische materialen die de natuur biedt.

‘Living Together Apart’ is an artistic research project that sheds light on (young) adults who are identified with ‘bi-culture’.

Visual artist and experience designer Ying Yi Wu will continue her pre-research of ‘Living Together Apart’ by reflecting first upon her own cultural identities. Many people think that cultural identities are given and mostly related to legal documents. But it’s not that simple. Ying Yi feels the urgency to research the societal subject around ‘migration’ and ‘cultural identities’. Cultural identities are connected with many happenings.

Ying Yi came to the Netherlands from China to study art, and after a few years of living and integrating into the local culture and language, she has adopted part of the Dutch culture in her identity. To give one simple example: she becomes way more direct than before.

In order to cover the production costs of ‘Living Together Apart’, she initiates this offline crowdfunding by inviting you for one-to-one traditional Chinese tea ceremonies in exchange for a small donation. Every tea ceremony takes about 30 minutes. You will be served with special flowers tea as flowers are essential inspirations in her artworks. Feel free to ask questions about her pre-research during tea ceremonies.

Ying Yi Wu is a visual artist, experience designer, and storyteller. With a social and cultural-orientated mindset, She tells stories through visual art and performance art. Ying Yi collects and creates sensual languages and cultures by playing with the botanical materials that nature provides.
